Davis-Sivasothy is a Houston-based, certified Trichologist, health scientist and consultant to the cosmetology industry. She is also a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
Sivasothy is the author of three healthy hair care books, including the international best-selling book—The Science of Black Hair.
Her work, The Science of Black Hair, continues to be the most highly-rated, foundational text on textured hair care today. The book was born many years ago out of Audrey’s frustration with her own thinning, breaking hair and the absolute lack of resources available to help educate women about their hair. Many of the scientifically-oriented books on hair care either discussed textured hair in a few paragraphs, framed it as a hair form that was different from the norm, or neglected to address the needs of textured hair altogether. In the early 2000s, there were only a handful of websites dedicated to textured hair. There were no authoritative, comprehensive, science-based texts dedicated to caring for black hair in its natural and/or chemically-processed states. Audrey sought to create that resource.
Today, The Science of Black Hair is circulated by more than 170 university and public library systems worldwide, including the U.S. Library of Congress—and it is used to train student cosmetologists.
Audrey has been featured as a guest expert on The Dr. Oz Show, and her work has appeared in Good Housekeeping, Woman’s World, The Huffington Post, Essence, Sophisticate’s Black Hair, and Hype Hair Magazines.
